The teacher behind the practice
A life devoted to healing and the ancient arts
Second-generation Doctor of Medical Qigong and Traditional Chinese Medicine, Daoist Abbot, and author — sharing the wisdom of the Five Sacred Animals with children and families worldwide.
My journey
Growing up, my home was unlike any other. My father was a Kung Fu master students were always training, the house always smelled like herbs, and he was always patching people up. He was a fighter, and a famous one. He is in the Hall of Fame of Kung Fu.
I watched him grow and transform over the years. From teaching Kung Fu to students who came from all over the world, he became an acupuncturist. I remember going to his clinics, hanging out with him whenever I could. Then he moved into Medical Qigong, where he became extremely well known. When I was young he would leave often if he wasn't training martial arts, he was in China, training in Medical Qigong and acupuncture.
We were raised in a strict Christian household. Later in life my father found his way into Daoism, and we grew together in that path. I followed him into Medical Qigong and Traditional Chinese Medicine, completing my own formal training and ordination. We walked that road side by side each deepening the other for many years.
The Sacred Animals series grew from a simple question: how do I share what I know with the youngest generation? Children are natural healers. They move freely, breathe deeply, and feel energy without the filters adults accumulate. These books and teachings are my offering to them — and to the parents and teachers who guide them.
Philosophy of practice
Healing is not something done to a person — it is something awakened within them. My role is simply to hold the space and show the way.
Medical Qigong works with the body's innate intelligence. Through breath, movement, and intention, we cultivate the vital energy Qi that underlies all health and wellbeing. The Five Sacred Animals of Chinese tradition each embody a different quality of this energy: the Phoenix's transforming fire, the Dragon's expansive wood, the Turtle's grounding water, the Tiger's protective metal, and the Earth's centering stillness.
This is one of the ways we can trace how an illness develops. It is also one of the most powerful tools we have for cancer prevention and the support of those living with serious disease. My doctoral work in oncology is rooted in this understanding — that the path to healing runs through the emotions as much as through the body.
I believe these teachings belong to everyone — including children. When we teach a child to breathe with the Dragon or rest with the Turtle, we are giving them a lifelong tool for emotional health. We are planting seeds of prevention that may bear fruit for decades to come.
